Which device suits your skin is a question for the doctor, not the brochure

Lasers and radiofrequency answer different problems, and on darker skin types the wrong setting leaves a mark rather than a result. The consultation checks your skin type first and names the device after that.

Choosing between thirteen devices

Hardware cosmetology covers every treatment where the working tool is a device rather than a syringe: lasers, radiofrequency, ultrasound, broadband light. MED YU MED runs thirteen of them, and the honest starting point is that the machine matters less than the match between the machine and the problem. The same face can be sent to four different devices depending on whether the complaint is colour, texture, laxity or vessels.

This page is a map. Each treatment has its own page with protocol, prices and contraindications; what follows is how they differ.

By what you want to change

Colour — pigmentation, sun spots, melasma, redness. Pigment absorbs light, so this is laser and light territory. PicoSure Pro delivers picosecond pulses at 755 nm for pigment and tattoo removal. BBL phototherapy uses broadband light filtered to target either brown pigment or the haemoglobin in small vessels. MOXI is a gentler fractional laser aimed at overall tone. Melasma sits apart from the rest: it is managed rather than cured, it returns with sun and hormonal triggers, and no device treats it as a standalone answer without topical treatment and daily sun protection.

Texture — scarring, pores, fine lines. Radiofrequency microneedling drives insulated needles into the dermis and releases energy from their tips. Genius, Morpheus8 Pro and VIVACE all work this way, differing in needle configuration and depth range rather than in principle. Fotona works by resurfacing with laser energy instead. Because RF microneedling delivers energy below the epidermis rather than through it, published reviews describe it as usable in darker skin phototypes — relevant in a city where most patients are Fitzpatrick III to V.

Laxity — sagging along the jaw, neck and lower face. Ultraformer MPT focuses ultrasound to a set depth without breaking the skin. VOLNEWMER delivers monopolar radiofrequency. Endolift works through micro-optical fibres placed under the skin, which makes it minimally invasive rather than non-invasive — a distinction worth knowing before booking. A randomised trial comparing radiofrequency against focused ultrasound for neck laxity found no significant difference in outcome between the two technologies, so the choice here is driven by skin thickness, target depth and how you tolerate the procedure rather than by one device being stronger.

Circulation, recovery and body work. INDIBA uses radiofrequency at a specific frequency for tissue quality, oedema and post-procedure recovery. HydraFacial sits at the gentlest end — vacuum-assisted cleansing and infusion, with no downtime, used for congestion and dullness rather than for structural change.

What device treatments will not do

None of these replaces surgery. Published improvements in skin laxity with focused ultrasound run in the region of 18% to 30% — meaningful, but not a facelift. Where skin is genuinely loose, the honest answer is a surgical opinion, and very loose skin appears in the contraindications for ultrasound at this clinic rather than as an indication.

Results also build slowly. Collagen remodelling after radiofrequency continues to improve for around six months, which is why courses are usually planned as three sessions rather than one, and why photographs taken two weeks apart rarely show what the treatment actually did. Nothing here is permanent: skin keeps ageing, and maintenance is part of any plan.

Skin type changes the decision

Darker phototypes carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after any energy-based treatment. That risk is managed by conservative settings, correct wavelength selection, a test spot where the pigment is uncertain, and strict sun protection between sessions — not by choosing the device with the strongest marketing. A recent tan, active infection, photosensitising medication or a recent isotretinoin course will postpone treatment regardless of which machine is planned.

What happens at the consultation

A doctor examines the skin, establishes what is actually causing the complaint, reviews medical history and medication, and then selects the device — or advises that a device is not the right answer. Two things are decided at that appointment rather than in advance: which technology fits, and how many sessions are realistic. A price quoted before that assessment is a price, not an indication.

Every treatment on this page is a medical procedure with contraindications and possible side effects, listed on its own page. Final suitability is determined by a clinician at an in-person assessment at MED YU MED, Bluewaters Island, Dubai.

Prices start from the shortest protocol or the smallest zone; the full price list carries every position. The doctor sets the plan at the consultation, and a quoted price on its own is not a treatment plan.

Bring the skin, not the device name

Patients often arrive asking for a specific machine they saw online. The assessment looks at skin type, the problem and your calendar, and sometimes the answer is a different device or none at all.
