A tired face is often an empty one, not a slack one
Flat cheeks, shadowed temples, a chin that has lost its line — these come from volume leaving the face, and tightening makes them look emptier. Replacing support in the right layer is a different plan with different prices, and it starts with working out where the volume went.

Where facial volume actually goes
The face is built in layers, and ageing takes from each of them. Fat sits in defined compartments rather than as an even pad; those compartments shrink and slide at different rates, so the midface empties while the lower face gains weight. Underneath, bone remodels — the eye socket widens, the jaw angle softens, the midface loses projection. Skin and the deeper fibrous layer lose their spring on top of all that.
What patients usually notice first
- Cheeks look flat in photographs taken straight on, and the face reads longer
- Shadows appear under the eyes that make-up no longer covers
- The nasolabial fold deepens although nothing has been added there
- Temples hollow, so glasses and hairlines sit differently
- The jawline loses definition while weight stays the same
Rapid weight loss tends to accelerate the process, which is worth saying plainly in a city where medically supervised weight loss is common: facial fat is usually among the first to go.
The mistake this page exists to prevent. Volume loss and sagging look similar in a mirror and need opposite treatments. Tightening a face that has emptied pulls the remaining tissue thinner. Filling a face that has descended adds weight to something already falling. Getting that call right is worth more than the choice of product.

Fillers and stimulators are not the same purchase
A hyaluronic acid filler is a gel that occupies space. It gives a controllable result visible from the same day, and hyaluronic acid can usually be dissolved with an enzyme if the placement or the amount turns out wrong. Reversal is not always complete and it does not undo every complication, which is why placement is planned rather than corrected afterwards. It is the right tool where a defined structure is missing: a cheekbone, a chin, a jaw angle.
A collagen stimulator works the other way. Poly-L-lactic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite and polycaprolactone-type products are understood to prompt your own collagen over weeks, so the change arrives gradually and cannot be dissolved. They suit diffuse thinning rather than a sculpted line, and they usually need more than one session.
Which one fits is decided by what is missing and how fast you want it to appear. Both are injected by a doctor after assessment; neither is sold by volume over the phone.
We do not do fat transfer. Lipofilling — moving your own fat to the face — is a surgical procedure performed under a different licence, and it is not among our services. If your case is better served by it, you will hear that at the consultation.
How it runs, and how long it holds
Filler results are visible the same day, with swelling and the occasional bruise over the following days; the final shape reads at about two weeks. Stimulators show little at first and build across one to three months, which is why they are planned well ahead of any event.
Hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body, and the interval before a top-up depends on the product, the zone and your metabolism — the doctor gives a range for the specific product used rather than a number that applies to everyone. Stimulator results last while the collagen they prompted persists, and maintenance is planned by review rather than by calendar.
A review appointment is part of the plan, not an upsell. Assessing at two weeks is how asymmetry gets corrected while correction is still simple.
Who this suits, and who should wait
Volume restoration suits you if
- The face looks flat or tired rather than heavy
- Weight is stable, or weight loss has finished
- You want a defined change and accept review and maintenance
- You can plan around several days of swelling
Not now, or not here, if
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- There is active infection, inflammation or herpes in the area
- You are mid-way through significant weight loss
- You have had an allergic reaction to a filler component
- You are looking for the result of surgery, or for fat transfer
This list is not exhaustive. Autoimmune conditions, blood thinners, previous permanent fillers and planned dental work all change the plan and must be declared. Final suitability is determined by a doctor at an in-person assessment.
One syringe in the wrong layer costs more than the syringe
Support goes where the structure is missing, which is often not where the shadow appears. The assessment maps that before anything is injected, and it also names the cases where filling is the wrong answer entirely.
Questions people ask
How much do cheek fillers cost in Dubai?
At MED YU MED, 1 ml of Juvederm Voluma is 2100 AED, 2 ml 3900 AED and 3 ml 5500 AED; Volux for the jaw and chin is 2600 AED per ml. Collagen stimulators start at 2000 AED for Nithya and 3500 AED for a vial of Sculptra. How much you need depends on the face, so the quote follows the assessment rather than preceding it.
How do I know whether I need filler or tightening?
A rough guide: in a mirror, lift the skin gently at the temple. If the face looks better because the outline sharpened, descent is the issue. If it looks better because the cheek filled out, volume is. Most faces need a mix, and the proportion is what the consultation establishes.
Will my face look overfilled?
The look people mean by that comes from volume placed superficially, repeatedly, without review. Conservative amounts placed on structure, with an assessment at two weeks, usually keep the face recognisable. Hyaluronic acid can usually be dissolved if the result is not what you wanted, although reversal is not always complete.
How long do fillers last?
The body breaks hyaluronic acid down gradually, and the interval varies by product, zone and metabolism. Mobile areas such as the lips generally need renewing sooner than structural zones such as the cheekbone. The doctor gives you the range for the product actually used — a single number quoted for all fillers is marketing rather than information.
Is a collagen stimulator better than a filler?
Different job. Stimulators build your own collagen gradually and suit diffuse thinning; fillers create defined structure from the same day and can usually be dissolved. Stimulators cannot be reversed, so they are used where a gradual, even change is the goal. Plans sometimes use both, in sequence.
I lost a lot of weight and my face looks older. What helps?
Facial fat leaves early during significant weight loss, which is why the face ages visibly while the body improves. The usual plan restores structural support at the cheekbone and jaw, and adds skin quality work. We wait until the weight has stabilised, because treating a moving target means paying twice.
Does it hurt, and is there downtime?
Topical anaesthetic is used and most products contain lidocaine. Expect swelling for one to several days and the possibility of bruising, especially around the lips and under the eyes. Plan injections at least two weeks before an event you care about.
What are the risks?
Common effects are swelling, bruising, tenderness and short-lived lumps. Rare but serious complications include vascular occlusion, where filler compromises blood supply — this is the reason injections belong to a licensed doctor in a clinical setting, and the reason we ask you to contact the clinic immediately if you develop severe or increasing pain, blanching or mottling of the skin, or any change in vision. Any change in vision needs assessment the same day.
Can old filler be removed?
Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with an enzyme injection, which is also how migrated or overfilled areas are corrected. Collagen stimulators and permanent fillers cannot be dissolved — that difference is worth knowing before the first injection rather than after it.
