It is rare but urgent: untreated it can cause the skin to break down, and, very rarely, filler travelling toward the vessels of the eye can affect vision. It is treated with hyaluronidase, which dissolves the filler, and outcomes are best when treatment starts within the first hours. Small painless lumps in the first week usually soften; a lump that is hot, red, painful or growing is not normal at any point. Firm nodules can also appear weeks or months later, sometimes after an infection, dental work or vaccination, and need a doctor rather than time.
