Common types are based on poly-L-lactic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite — materials the body recognises and slowly absorbs, leaving behind newly formed collagen. Placed in the deeper skin, the biostimulator triggers a controlled repair response: fibroblasts treat it as a scaffold and produce fresh collagen around it over weeks to months.
That is the key difference from a hyaluronic filler. Weigh that before choosing a biostimulator over a reversible filler. The characteristic risk is delayed nodules: firm lumps that can appear weeks or months after a session, most often in thin-skinned or mobile areas. Most are painless and treatable, but they need a doctor to assess them, and treatment takes longer than with a dissolvable filler. Inflammatory granulomas are rarer and can appear later still.
