How Many RF Lifting Sessions Do You Need and How Long Do Results Last?

The short answer

No single number fits everyone. The VOLNEWMER treatment page says the doctor sets the number of sessions and the spacing at assessment, and that many patients have a short series. Published trials of monopolar RF tested one treatment or a few treatments weeks apart, and they followed patients from one month to beyond a year. Firming builds over weeks, then relaxes gradually as ageing continues, which is why some people return for maintenance. Your doctor sets the exact schedule for your treatment.

What decides the number of sessions

At the clinic, the VOLNEWMER RF lifting treatment is planned around the area, the condition of the tissue, the thickness of the skin and the tightening you want. The doctor chooses the number of pulses for each area, and VOLNEWMER can be combined with Ultraformer MPT in VOLFORMER protocols.

Two findings from the literature explain why plans differ. In a study of 25 patients measured up to 12 months, the six who did not respond began with more tissue laxity than the 19 who did, with a mobility score of 4.4 mm against 3.4 mm. And in a survey of dermatologists who use Thermage FLX, a different device, skin thickness was named the most important factor in how well patients respond. Both suggest that the starting condition of the skin shapes the response. For VOLNEWMER, the treatment page describes mild to moderate laxity as the target.

That is one reason the consultation comes first. A doctor who sees your skin can say whether a short series is realistic or whether another method suits you better.

What published studies tested

The studies below differ in device, protocol and follow-up. Read the table as a map of what exists, not as a schedule to copy.

Study Device and protocol Follow-up What it reported
Kim, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open, 2024 (45 people completed) VolNewMer, one session of 200 to 300 shots Immediately and 1 month Skin roughness fell 28.42% immediately and 26.23% at one month. Sixteen people showed a larger improvement at one month than right after treatment.
Kim, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open, 2026 (25 lean women) VolNewMer, 5 sessions 3 weeks apart at low energy, aimed at facial volume 18 weeks Tissue thickness rose on 3D imaging and ultrasound. Not randomized, one center.
Sasaki et al., Aesthetic Surgery Journal, 2007 (25 patients) Monopolar RF, 350 to 450 firings to forehead, face and upper neck 3, 6 and 12 months 19 patients (76%) progressively responded over 12 months. Six did not, and they began with more laxity.
Suh et al., Dermatologic Therapy, 2020 (survey of 52 Korean dermatologists) Thermage FLX in routine practice Not applicable The interval between treatments was mainly 1 year (51.9% of respondents).

The VOLNEWMER studies we reviewed follow patients for one month and 18 weeks, and the second of them measured volume, not lifting. Data at 6 months and beyond come from other monopolar devices. The survey describes what a group of doctors does, not what a trial proved, and it covers a different device.

When results appear and how long they last

The treatment page describes two steps. Some firming often shows soon after a session, and the main result builds over the following weeks as new collagen forms. The same page quotes the manufacturer’s timeline and a practitioner’s article. Read those as statements from the device side of the field. They are not independent trials, and the page itself says results vary between individuals.

Durability is where honest answers get narrow. RF is designed to stimulate new collagen, but skin keeps ageing, so the effect relaxes gradually over time. The 12-month study above shows that a response can continue for a year in patients who respond. It does not show that every patient keeps every gain, and the VOLNEWMER data we found stop well short of that point. That is why the clinic’s page speaks of maintenance and does not promise a fixed lifespan for the result.

The treatment page advises daily SPF after treatment. Your doctor can tell you when to reassess.

How to read session numbers you find online

A number of sessions means little without three details. Check who produced it, how long patients were followed and whether anything else was done at the same time.

  • Timing of the measurement. In the 2024 VolNewMer study, 16 of the 45 people who completed it looked better at one month than right after treatment. A result judged on the day of the session says little about the weeks that follow.
  • Length of follow-up. The 25-patient study measured at 3, 6 and 12 months, and the picture changed from one visit to the next. A one-month result cannot tell you where month twelve will land.
  • Other treatments in the protocol. The treatment page notes that one published VOLNEWMER lifting study applied a stem cell medium to the skin as well, so its result cannot be credited to the device alone.
  • Source of the claim. Manufacturer timelines, practitioner articles, trials and surveys carry different weight. Ask which one a figure comes from.

A plan built on your skin at assessment will always beat a figure borrowed from someone else’s protocol.

Planning a course and maintenance

When a short series is planned, the treatment page says the sessions are spaced to let collagen build between visits. Bring these questions to the consultation:

  1. How many pulses will each area need, and what does the doctor base that on?
  2. How many sessions does my plan include, and how far apart?
  3. When will we judge the result, and what happens if it is smaller than expected?
  4. What would maintenance look like for my skin, and when would it start?
  5. Would a combined plan make sense, and in what order?

Some conditions rule RF out, including an implanted electronic device, pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection in the area and active cancer; the full list is on the treatment page and in our article on what RF feels like.

When to seek urgent help

Whatever the schedule, contact the clinic the same day if you develop a blister or an open area of skin, a burn, pain that increases instead of easing after the first day, redness and heat that spread beyond the treated area, discharge or fever, or a dark or white patch of skin that was not there before. Eye pain or any change in vision after treatment near the eyes needs assessment the same day. The clinic’s treatment page gives +971 52 184 5011 and hours of 10:00 to 22:00. The clinic does not work around the clock. When it is closed, go to the nearest emergency department or call 998 for an ambulance. Sudden loss or blurring of vision, or a large, deep or rapidly worsening burn, needs emergency care at once, whatever the hour: go to the nearest emergency department or call 998.

Frequently asked questions

How many Volnewmer sessions do I need?

The treatment page says many patients have a short series, and the doctor sets the number and spacing at assessment. It depends on the area, the laxity, the skin thickness and your goal. Expect the number to be part of a plan, not a fixed figure.

How often can you have RF lifting?

Spacing is the doctor’s decision. The treatment page says sessions in a series are spaced so collagen can build between visits. In the trials we reviewed, treatments ranged from a single session to sessions three weeks apart. Do not plan your own schedule.

How often should Thermage be repeated?

In a survey of 52 Korean dermatologists who use Thermage FLX, just over half (51.9%) mainly repeated treatment at one-year intervals. A survey shows habits, not a rule, and protocols differ by device. Follow the schedule your treating doctor sets.

Does Thermage last?

Results relax gradually because skin keeps ageing. In a 2007 study of 25 patients treated with a monopolar RF device (not named in the abstract), 19 patients kept responding over 12 months, while six did not. Durability varies by person, device and skin condition, so ask about maintenance for your own plan.

How long do VOLNEWMER results last?

The treatment page describes the effect as long-lasting and gradually relaxing, with maintenance holding it. The VOLNEWMER studies we reviewed followed patients for one month and 18 weeks, so they cannot show longer durability. Results vary between individuals.

Can RF lifting be combined with other treatments?

The treatment page says VOLNEWMER works on its own or alongside other treatments, including VOLFORMER protocols with Ultraformer MPT. Order and timing are the doctor’s decision and depend on your goals, your skin and what else you are having.

If you want a doctor to assess your skin and explain how many sessions a realistic plan would involve, you can arrange a consultation.
