Fat, loose skin or bone structure — three causes, three answers
Injections dissolve fat and do nothing for slack skin. Tightening firms skin and removes no fat. And if the cause is where your jaw and hyoid bone sit, neither will change it. The assessment decides which of the three you are dealing with.

What is actually under your chin
The submental area holds fat above and below the platysma muscle, the skin that covers it, and the bone geometry underneath. A double chin can come from any of the three, and most often from a combination — which is why one method rarely finishes the job.
The three causes
- A fat pocket — a defined pad under the chin, often present at a normal weight and resistant to diet. The classic target for fat-dissolving injections.
- Skin and muscle laxity — the outline blurs as skin loses collagen and the platysma slackens. Removing fat here can make it look worse, not better.
- Anatomy — a receding jaw or a low-set hyoid bone shortens the angle between chin and neck. No injection or device alters bone.
A rough self-check: tip your head back and tense your neck. If the fullness flattens noticeably, laxity is a large part of it. If a distinct pad stays, there is fat to address.
We do not perform liposuction. Most of the Dubai search results for this query lead to surgical chin liposuction, which is done by a plastic surgeon under a different licence. It remains the most decisive option for a large fat pad. What we offer is the non-surgical route, and if your case genuinely calls for surgery, you will hear that at the consultation instead of buying a course that under-delivers.

The order matters
Where both fat and laxity are present, taking the volume out first can leave the skin with less to fill it — the result looks slacker than the starting point. Tightening before or alongside the fat work avoids that, and the sequence is set at the consultation rather than by whichever treatment is on offer that month.
One more thing worth knowing about the injection: our preparation is PB Serum Slim, a recombinant lipase from Proteos Biotech in Spain, which breaks down triglycerides inside the fat cell. It is not deoxycholic acid, the class Kybella belongs to, which destroys the cell membrane and behaves differently in swelling and recovery.
Exercises, chin straps and five-day promises. Neck exercises strengthen the platysma and can help posture-related fullness a little. They do not shrink a fat pad, tighten skin or move bone. Anything advertising a double chin gone in five days is describing fluid leaving, which returns with the next salty dinner.
What recovery looks like
Fat-dissolving injections swell, and the submental area swells visibly — several days of it, sometimes with tenderness and firm lumps that settle over weeks. That is expected and it is the reason we ask what is in your calendar before booking. Nobody wants this two days before a wedding.
Tightening protocols are the opposite: redness and a tight feeling for a day, then normal life, with the actual result arriving over two to three months as collagen rebuilds.
Who this suits, and who should look elsewhere
Non-surgical treatment suits you if
- The chin is disproportionate to the rest of your face
- Weight is stable and the pocket is local rather than general
- You can accept a course and gradual change
- You can plan around several days of swelling
Consider surgery or wait if
- The fat pad is large and long-standing
- Skin is significantly loose and hangs

Two minutes decides between an injection and a lift
The doctor palpates the area, checks how the skin retracts and looks at your jaw angle. That determines whether you need fat removed, skin tightened, both in a particular order, or a surgeon.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to remove a double chin in Dubai?
Non-surgically at MED YU MED: fat-dissolving injections are 2300 AED for one zone, SMAS lifting with Ultraformer MPT starts at 2500 AED for the double chin area and 3000 AED for the larger protocol, Morpheus8 on the lower third is 2000 AED and on the neck 2900 AED. Courses of three are quoted at 7125 and 8550 AED for the SMAS protocols. Surgical liposuction is a different service and we do not perform it.
Can a double chin be removed permanently?
Depends what is creating it. Fat cells removed or reduced do not come back in the same number, but remaining cells enlarge if you gain weight, so the result is not weight-proof. Loose skin needs maintenance as collagen ages. And if the cause is jaw position or the hyoid bone sitting low, no treatment changes that — including surgery in some cases.
Do you do liposuction for the chin?
No. Submental liposuction is a surgical procedure performed by a plastic surgeon, and it is not among our services. What we offer is the non-surgical route: enzyme-based fat-dissolving injections and tightening with ultrasound or radiofrequency. If your case genuinely calls for surgery, the doctor will say so at the consultation.
Which is better, injections or tightening?
They solve different halves of the problem. Lipolytics reduce a fat pocket but do nothing for skin that has lost tone — and can make loose skin look looser once the volume goes. SMAS and RF tighten but do not remove fat. Many plans run both in sequence, which is why the assessment matters more than the brochure.
Do double chin exercises work?
They strengthen the platysma and can improve posture-related fullness slightly. They do not reduce a fat pad, tighten skin or change bone structure. The internet promise of losing a double chin in five days describes fluid retention going down, not fat leaving.
What is injected — is it Kybella?
No. We use PB Serum Slim, a recombinant lipase from Proteos Biotech in Spain. It breaks down triglycerides inside the fat cell. Deoxycholic acid products such as Kybella work by destroying the cell membrane and behave differently in swelling and recovery. It is a fair question to ask any clinic which of the two they are using.
What are the side effects?
After lipolytics: swelling that can be marked for several days, tenderness, bruising and sometimes firm lumps that settle over weeks. The submental area swells visibly, so plan the timing around your calendar. After SMAS or RF: redness, tenderness and a tight feeling for a day or two. All of it is discussed and consented before the first session.
How many sessions will I need?
Fat-dissolving work usually needs two to four sessions spaced several weeks apart, because the body clears the released fat gradually. Tightening protocols show over two to three months as collagen rebuilds, and are often planned as a course of three.
Will it help if I am overweight?
A double chin that reflects overall weight responds to weight management first — treatment of a local pocket on a background of general fullness gives a disappointing result and we will tell you that rather than take the booking. Where the chin is disproportionate to the rest of the face, that is exactly the case these methods are for.
How soon can I go back to work?
Tightening protocols: the same day, with some redness. Fat-dissolving injections: plan for visible swelling in the first days, and do not schedule them the week of a wedding or a photoshoot. This is the single most common regret we hear about timing.
