Laser epilation DEKA treatment at MED YU MED Dubai

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal at MED YU MED Dubai is performed on the Deka Motus AX Moveo system for long-term hair reduction on the face and body. The treatment is suitable for patients looking for medical laser hair removal, smoother skin, reduced shaving or waxing, and a controlled course performed by a trained clinical team.

Skin tone matters here, and in Dubai tanned and naturally darker skin is common. This platform targets pigment at 755 nm, so the clinician assesses your phototype, adjusts the settings and may run a test patch before a course begins, and at the highest phototypes may advise a different approach. Sessions use the in-motion Moveo handpiece with contact cooling, which most patients describe as warm rather than sharp. Treatment is carried out by a DHA-licensed medical team. Results vary between individuals, and a consultation confirms the plan before the first session.

  • Unwanted hair on the face — upper lip, chin, cheeks
  • Unwanted hair on the body — underarms, arms, legs, back, chest
  • Coarse or dark hair that responds well to laser targeting
  • Dark hair on medium to darker skin tones, once the clinician has assessed the phototype and, where needed, run a test patch
  • Ingrown hairs or shaving irritation, after clinician assessment

- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Active infection, inflammation, open wounds or herpes in the treatment area
- Fresh tan, recent intensive sun exposure or sunburn
- Active dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis or acute skin flare in the treatment area
- Known photosensitivity or use of photosensitizing medication
- Recent isotretinoin use
- Active cancer or suspicious skin lesions in the treatment area
- Uncontrolled chronic, endocrine or autoimmune conditions
- Keloid tendency or abnormal scarring risk
- Recent aggressive peeling, laser resurfacing or skin trauma in the treatment area
- Tattoos or permanent makeup in the treatment area, unless avoided by the specialist
- Very light, grey, red or vellus hair that may respond poorly to laser
- Moles and pigmented lesions in the treatment area, which a doctor examines before the first session so the baseline appearance is on record, and which the beam is then kept away from; if there is any doubt about a lesion the area is excluded and you are referred to a dermatologist, because laser can change how a mole looks both clinically and on dermoscopy
- Age under 18

This list is not exhaustive. Other conditions, medicines and previous treatments may also rule the treatment out or change the plan. Final suitability is determined by a clinician at an in-person assessment.

Laser Hair Removal in Dubai: what the treatment does

Laser hair removal in Dubai, also called laser epilation, works best when the laser fits your skin rather than the other way round. At MED YU MED it runs on the Deka Motus AX, an Alexandrite platform working at a single wavelength of 755 nm. The Moveo handpiece delivers that energy in motion, stacking low-fluence passes with sapphire cooling instead of firing single high-energy pulses, and the clinician sets the settings after assessing your phototype and your hair.

How Laser Hair Removal works

Laser hair removal reduces hair by targeting the pigment in the follicle with light, which heats and disables it over a course of sessions. Because a laser only affects follicles in their active growth phase, a single session reaches a fraction of the hair, so the treatment runs as a course spaced across weeks.

The wavelength here is 755 nm, and melanin absorbs it strongly. That is what makes it efficient on dark hair, and it is also why skin tone is part of the clinical decision rather than a detail, because the pigment in your skin competes with the pigment in the follicle. The Moveo handpiece was developed to widen the range of phototypes an Alexandrite laser can treat, building heat gradually through stacked low-fluence passes with continuous sapphire cooling. It is designed to reduce discomfort, and how a session feels still varies from person to person. The full device specification sits on the Deka Motus AX device page.

What the published data shows for this wavelength comes from a two-centre retrospective study of 948 patients with Fitzpatrick types I to IV, PMID 31579971, covering 3,606 treatments with a long-pulsed 755 nm laser and epidermal cooling. Patients received an average of 5.31 treatments. At follow-up around 3.9 years after the final session, 74 per cent had 75 to 100 per cent clearance by physician assessment, while patients themselves reported 48 per cent. Slower regrowth was reported by 52 per cent and a change in hair texture by 42 per cent, and long-term adverse events were minimal.

Response varies by area, which is why one course length for the whole body is misleading. In the same study, after three treatments 90 per cent of underarms, 82 per cent of bikini areas and 79 per cent of lower legs had reached 75 per cent clearance or more, while the face reached 66 per cent and the chest and abdomen 62 per cent. Facial treatment needed five sessions or more to catch up.

One limit belongs in the same breath as those numbers. That study covered phototypes I to IV, and this platform runs a single 755 nm wavelength that targets melanin. At phototypes V and VI the decision is made with the clinician after assessment and a test patch, and you may be told that a different approach suits your skin better.

Men are treated on the same platform, and the price list carries a separate men's section. Complexes run from 750 AED for full face and underarms to 2 350 AED for the full set of face, chest, underarms, bikini, arms, legs, abdomen and back. Single zones start at 120 AED for the upper lip, 150 AED for the beard area and 180 AED for sideburns. Beard-line work is agreed at the consultation, because the shape you keep matters as much as the hair that goes.

How a session goes: Laser Hair Removal

  1. Consultation

Fitzpatrick skin-type assessment, hair and area review, and medical history. A patch test may be advised for darker phototypes.

  2. Preparation

The area is shaved and cleansed, protective eyewear is fitted, and the wavelength and fluence are set for your skin and hair.

  3. Treatment

The Moveo handpiece is swept over the area with continuous cooling until target energy is reached — from a few minutes for the upper lip to about an hour for full legs.

  4. Aftercare

Sun avoidance and SPF are advised. Sessions repeat every 4-6 weeks across the course as hair density falls.

Results after Laser Hair Removal

Course length depends on the area and on your hair rather than on a fixed number. In the 948-patient study of this wavelength, PMID 31579971, patients averaged 5.31 sessions, and underarms, bikini and lower legs responded faster than the face, chest and abdomen, which needed five or more. Sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart because the laser only acts on follicles in their growth phase. Hair density drops gradually across the course, and in that study 52 per cent of patients reported slower regrowth and 42 per cent a change in hair texture. Laser produces long-term hair reduction rather than guaranteed permanent removal, and fine or hormonally driven hair may need occasional maintenance. Results vary between individuals.

Recovery and aftercare after Laser Hair Removal

Most people return to normal activity the same day. The skin may look flushed or show mild redness and swelling around the follicles for a few hours, which settles on its own. Avoid sun exposure, hot baths and saunas for a day or two, and use SPF on treated areas.

The risks belong next to that rather than in a footer. Laser hair removal can cause burns and blistering, crusting, and both hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation, and that risk rises on tanned skin and at higher phototypes because the laser targets pigment. Paradoxical hypertrichosis, meaning increased hair growth in or around the treated area, is uncommon but recognised. Protective eyewear is worn throughout the session. A blister, an open wound, spreading redness with heat and pain, or a fever after treatment needs medical attention the same day.

When to contact us urgently. Call MED YU MED on +971 52 184 5011 (daily 10:00–22:00) if you develop a blister or an open area of skin, a burn, pain that increases rather than eases after the first day, redness and heat spreading beyond the treated area, discharge or fever, or a dark or white patch of skin that was not there before. Eye pain or any change in vision after a treatment near the eyes needs assessment the same day. Outside our opening hours, go to the nearest emergency department or call 998 for an ambulance — do not wait for the clinic to reopen.

Laser Hair Removal: frequently asked questions

How much does laser hair removal cost in Dubai?

At MED YU MED laser hair removal starts from 100 AED for the smallest area. Full-body sessions and course packages are priced per plan, since cost depends on the areas and the number of sessions. A consultation gives you an exact quote.

Does laser hair removal work on dark or tanned skin?

Not automatically, and it is settled at assessment rather than online. This platform runs a single 755 nm Alexandrite wavelength, which melanin absorbs strongly, so more pigment in the skin means more competition with the target and a higher risk of burns and of pigment change. The Moveo delivery was developed to widen the range of phototypes an Alexandrite laser can treat by building heat gradually with continuous cooling. The published data for this wavelength, PMID 31579971, covers Fitzpatrick I to IV. At phototypes V and VI the clinician assesses your skin, may run a test patch, and will tell you if another approach suits you better.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no single number. In the 948-patient study of this wavelength, PMID 31579971, patients averaged 5.31 sessions, and the area mattered more than anything else: after three treatments 90 per cent of underarms had reached 75 per cent clearance or more, against 66 per cent of faces, which needed five sessions or more. Sessions are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Fine or hormonally influenced hair may need additional sessions, and results vary between individuals.

Is laser hair removal painful?

The Moveo handpiece delivers energy in motion with continuous contact cooling, which most patients find more comfortable than single-pulse lasers and usually needs no numbing gel. Sensation varies by area and individual tolerance

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser treatment produces long-term hair reduction rather than guaranteed permanent removal. Most patients keep results with occasional maintenance sessions. Outcomes vary between individuals.

How should I prepare for a session?

Shave the area a day before, avoid waxing or plucking for four weeks beforehand (the root needs to be present), and keep the skin out of the sun. Avoid fake tan before treatment. The clinic confirms specifics at consultation.

What are the risks of laser hair removal?

Redness and swelling around the follicles for a few hours are expected. The risks that matter are burns and blistering, crusting, and pigment change in both directions — darker patches and lighter patches — and that risk rises on tanned skin and on darker skin types, because the laser targets pigment. Paradoxical hypertrichosis, meaning more hair growth in or around the treated area, is uncommon but recognised. Protective eyewear is worn throughout. Moles and pigmented lesions in the area are examined by a doctor before the first session and the beam is kept away from them. Tell us about any photosensitising medicine, recent sun exposure or a history of cold sores before you book.

Do you do laser hair removal for men?

Yes, on the same Deka Motus AX. The price list has a separate men's section: complexes from 750 AED, single zones from 120 AED, the beard area at 150 AED. Which zones suit you, how many sessions each needs and where the beard line should sit are confirmed by the doctor at the consultation.
