Dehydrated skin and dry skin are not the same diagnosis
Dry skin lacks oil and is a skin type you are born with. Dehydrated skin lacks water and is a condition anyone can develop — including oily skin, which is why the greasiest faces in Dubai are often the tightest by evening. The two need different treatment, and the wrong one makes the mirror worse.

What “dull” usually turns out to be
Skin looks dull when light stops bouncing off it evenly. Three things do that, usually together.
- Water loss in the upper layers. The barrier lets moisture escape, fine dehydration lines appear on the cheeks, make-up sits badly and the surface reads grey.
- Build-up of dead cells. Cell turnover slows with age and after sun exposure; the surface becomes rough and scatters light instead of reflecting it.
- Uneven tone. Pigment patches, background redness and visible vessels remove the clarity people describe as glow.
The two-minute self-check
Press a fingertip into the cheek and release. Skin that lacks water shows fine lines that fade slowly. Skin that lacks oil feels rough and flaky but bounces back. Skin that is oily and tight at the same time is dehydrated, not dry — and stripping it with stronger cleansers makes it worse.
Dubai is a dehydrating environment, and the reasons stack. Air conditioning runs all year, UV is high, pool chlorine and salt water strip the barrier, and frequent flying costs the skin water on every trip. Nothing on this page holds without daily sun protection and a barrier-friendly routine, because the treatment restores what the environment keeps taking.

Surface work and deep work do different jobs
A hydradermabrasion facial cleans, exfoliates and saturates the surface. It is the right choice before an event, and it is honest about its timescale: the freshness it gives is measured in days, and a course keeps it going.
Injectable hydration works underneath. Hyaluronic acid placed in the dermis is understood to bind water at a depth creams do not reach, and the improvement in fine dehydration lines and light reflection usually builds across a course of three. That is a different purchase from a facial, at a different price, and confusing them is the most common reason people feel a treatment underdelivered.
Peels and fractional laser act on turnover: they remove or damage the surface in a controlled way so that the skin rebuilds smoother and more even. Those results arrive over weeks and need sun protection to hold.
Glow is not bleaching. Treatments that even out tone make skin look clearer and brighter. They do not lighten your natural colour, and we do not offer skin whitening. If uneven tone is the main complaint, the assessment looks for its cause — pigment, vessels, or surface build-up — because each of those responds to something different.
What a realistic plan looks like
A typical first pass: cleansing or a light peel to clear the surface, a course of three injectable hydration sessions two to four weeks apart, LED after any session that leaves the skin reactive, and a home routine that keeps the barrier intact between visits.
Results show in stages. The surface improves within days, the depth of fine dehydration lines over three to six weeks, tone and texture over two to three months. Maintenance is usually a session every few months, adjusted at review rather than sold as a subscription.
Who this suits, and who should wait
This suits you if
- Skin feels tight by the afternoon regardless of the cream you use
- Make-up sits unevenly or clings to fine lines
- The face looks grey or flat in photographs
- You are prepared to run a course rather than a single visit
See a doctor first if
- There is persistent redness, burning or flaking — that may be a skin condition rather than dehydration
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- There is active infection, herpes or an open area in the zone
- You finished isotretinoin recently
- Dryness came with fatigue, hair loss or weight change — that belongs to a physician, not a facial
This list is not exhaustive. Eczema, rosacea, thyroid disorders and some medicines change both the diagnosis and the plan. Final suitability is determined by a doctor at an in-person assessment.
A facial before Friday, or a course that changes the baseline
Both are valid purchases, and they cost different money for different reasons. The consultation tells you which one your skin is actually asking for, and says so even when the answer is the cheaper one.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between dry and dehydrated skin?
Dry skin lacks lipids and is a skin type: it feels rough, flakes and needs richer emollients. Dehydrated skin lacks water and is a temporary condition any type can develop, including oily skin. Dehydrated skin looks dull, shows fine lines that fade when you press it, and often produces more oil in response. The treatments differ, which is why the distinction is worth making before you buy anything.
How much does a hydrating treatment cost in Dubai?
At MED YU MED, a HydraFacial starts at 700 AED for the face and a course of six is 3500 AED. Injectable hydration starts at 2100 AED per session, usually as a course of three at 5985 AED. Light peels start at 550 AED and mesotherapy at 700 AED. The full list is on the price page.
Will one facial fix dull skin?
One session improves the surface and looks good for several days — which is exactly right before an event. Changing how your skin behaves takes a course plus a home routine, because the causes are ongoing: sun, air conditioning, turnover slowing with age. A single facial does not change the baseline.
Is biorevitalisation the same as a filler?
No. A filler is a shaped gel placed to create structure. Biorevitalisation uses fluid, unshaped hyaluronic acid distributed through the skin to hold water and improve quality. It does not add volume or change contour, and it is dosed and priced differently.
Does drinking more water fix dehydrated skin?
It helps general health, and dehydration from heat is real in this climate. It does not repair a damaged barrier on its own. Skin usually holds water better when the barrier is intact and there is enough hyaluronic acid in the dermis — which is what barrier-friendly home care and in-clinic hydration address.
Which is better for glow: a peel or a laser?
A peel is gentler, cheaper and suits surface dullness and mild unevenness, usually as a course. Fractional laser goes deeper, addresses photoageing and texture, and asks for several days of visible recovery. The choice follows the cause of the dullness and how much downtime you can take, not how strongly a method is promoted.
Can I do these treatments in summer?
Yes, with adjustments. Stronger peels and laser work are planned around sun exposure, and daily broad-spectrum protection is non-negotiable afterwards — otherwise you trade improved texture for new pigmentation. Hydration protocols and LED carry no such restriction.
What should I use at home?
A gentle cleanser, a barrier-supporting moisturiser and daily sun protection cover most of it; actives such as retinoids are added according to tolerance. Product choice is discussed at the consultation against what you already use. Our article on moisturisers for dry skin covers the home side in more detail.
What are the side effects?
Facials and LED: brief redness. Peels: redness, tightness and flaking for one to several days. Injectable protocols: small papules at the injection points that settle within a day or two, with possible bruising. Laser: redness and a rough, bronzed texture for several days. Anything that worsens instead of settling — spreading redness, increasing pain, blistering or fever — needs to be reported to the clinic the same day.
