BBL Phototherapy in Dubai — How BroadBand Light Works

BBL BroadBand Light Treatment in Dubai

BBL (BroadBand Light) is an advanced broadband light technology using the Sciton MJoule platform to address pigmentation, sun damage, vascular lesions, rosacea and overall skin tone. At MED YU MED Dubai, all BBL treatments are performed using the Sciton MJoule BBL Hero device, operating across a 515-1200nm wavelength range. Unlike traditional IPL systems, BBL delivers precisely controlled pulses of light that selectively target chromophores in the skin. The FOREVER BBL protocol applies lower fluences repetitively to stimulate molecular rejuvenation at the genetic level. Treatment sessions typically last 30-45 minutes with minimal downtime. Suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV, BBL is ideal for photoaged skin, freckles, lentigines, telangiectasia and diffuse redness. DHA-licensed physicians at MED YU MED conduct a thorough skin assessment prior to treatment. Individual results vary; a personalised consultation is required. Not suitable during pregnancy or for active skin infections.

How it works

  • Broadband light absorbed by the target chromophore (melanin or haemoglobin)
  • 515–560 nm filter: pigmentation (melanin)
  • 590–695 nm filter: vascular lesions (haemoglobin in vessels)
  • 1200 nm filter: deep heating for skin quality
  • Sapphire cooling plate protects the epidermis during pulses

Protocol at MED YU MED

  • Consultation: skin type, target concern, medication review
  • Topical anaesthetic optional; cooling integrated in device
  • Session 20–40 minutes depending on treated areas
  • Pigmentation: 2–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart
  • Rosacea/vascular: 3–5 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart
  • Annual maintenance session recommended

Aftercare

  • Treated pigment lesions darken briefly (1–7 days) then flake — do not pick
  • SPF 50 daily — essential
  • Avoid sun for 2–4 weeks before and after
  • Avoid heat, sauna and intense exercise for 48 hours
  • Cold compress for flushing or sensitivity in first 24 hours
